“Homophobia hurts everyone.”- Alex Sanchez
I agree. I believe that Alex Sanchez is trying to say for the people that are straight it hurts them in a way that they are not open to accepting those that may have this different sexual orientation. I know that when I was a little younger and wasn’t open to accept people who were gay. To mean I thought that it was wrong, now that I’m older and have been more exposed to this sort of thing I have become more open to it and not think it is wrong because it’s not. For the straight people I think are hurting themselves by not opening their minds to become aware that this is how people want to live their lives. Its not our choice it’s theirs. We can’t change someones likes and dislikes, people like or dislike them for a reason. For those who are gay it hurts them to hear the nasty comments straight people say to them or around them. It hurts them to be looked down upon because they like someone of the same sex. Just because they chose a different way of life doesn’t give straights the right to beat on them physically, mentally, or emotionally. I think that LSS could create a club that brings awareness to this issue and open the minds of people and the different types of people. We can’t change the minds of people who only believe that only a man and woman is supposed to be together, but we can try to open their minds and stop the bashing that all non-accepting people does.

I agree with what you are saying about when you were younger. I have found the same thing about myself. When I was younger I thought that being gay was wrong and that only men and women should be together. I think it may have been because I was influenced by family – I only knew what I was taught and they never really talked about gays as being accepted. Now that I am older and have been able to “see the world” and find out things on my own, I am also able to look at things from different perspectives!
